Supporting Awareness in a CSCL Environment
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper describes Knowledge Awareness (KA), a new concept for inducing collaboration in an open ended and collaborative learning environment. To enhance collaboration opportunities in this situation, KA provides information about the activities of the learners within the shared knowledge space. For instance, the messages are “someone is looking at the same knowledge that you are looking at,” “someone discussed the knowledge which you have inputted.” The spontaneous collaboration that is created by the messages facilitates the refinement and evolution of the learners’ knowledge. This paper also describes knowledge awareness map and its design, implementation and evaluation. The map visualizes the relationship between the shared knowledge and the current and past interactions of learners. The map plays a very important role of finding peer helpers, and inducing collaboration. In this map, a mediator agent recommends suitable collaborators who can help the problem solving. SHARLOK II (sharing, linking and looking-for knowledge) has been developed on the web as a testbed of KA map, which has a knowledge building and collaborative learning environment connected via Internet. We have tested and verified the effectiveness of SHARLOK II and KA map through their use.

Supporting Knowledge Awareness for a Ubiquitous CSCL
This paper describes a computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL) in a ubiquitous computing environment. In the environment called CLUE, the learners provide and share individual knowledge and discuss about them. This paper focuses on knowledge awareness map and its design, implementation and evaluation. The map visualizes the relationship between the shared knowledge and the current and ...
متن کاملThe sociability of computer-supported collaborative learning environment
There is much positive research on computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) environments in asynchronous distributed learning groups (DLGs). There is also research that shows that contemporary CSCL environments do not completely fulfil expectations on supporting interactive group learning, shared understanding, social construction of knowledge, and acquisition of competencies. There app...

متن کاملProximity and view awareness to reduce referential ambiguity in a shared 3D virtual environment
This contribution investigates the role of virtual space on social interactions during collaborative tasks. We previously observed that MUD users rely on spatial positions to refine the conversational context and thereby facilitate mutual understanding. Supporting mutual understanding is a main challenge of CSCL research. We explore how this may happen in a continuous space (VRML). Our first hy...

متن کاملA Design of Collaborative Learning in Terms of Supporting Emergent Division of Labor
In this paper, we describe an aspect of collaboration—emergent division of labor—wherein people interactively and contingently organize, maintain, and reorganize the division of labor. The emergent division of labor involves the following characteristics: (1) Emergence of division of labor, (2) Maintenance of division of labor, and (3) Reorganization of division of labor. The authors have claim...
